Fest Tribute to Honeyboy Edwards – Live Review

The Reel Blues Fest presented a special tribute to legendary
acoustic Delta blues guitarist David “Honeyboy” Edwards. Honeyboy,
who at age 95 is Robert Johnson’s last living disciple, is one of
the last of the original acoustic Delta blues players.

Dickey Betts’ band and members of The Allman Brothers. In the truest
sense though, you wouldn’t consider yourself purely a “southern
rock” guitarist, would you?…

Desiree Bassett performs

The music never stops for Desiree. She enjoys teaching guitar on
Sundays to local kids, takes vocal lessons during the week, private
guitar lessons with a former Dickey Betts Band member and plays out
live when ever she can. Desiree loves doing what she does;
performing and entertaining. She has a very strong desire to share
her gift with the world…

In many ways, Desiree Apolonio Bassett is a typical 17 year old.

The Ashford teen enjoys spending time with friends, dirt biking
in the warmer, drier weather and will be graduating from Edwin O.
Smith High School in Storrs in June.

would guess that she was a woman who was at least in her 30s. After
all, her list is filled with guitarists like 1960s guitar gods Jimi
Hendrix and Eric Clapton, Rik Emmett of the 1970s power trio
Triumph, and 1980s shredder Joe Satriani (now a member of the
supergroup Chickenfoot)…

Guitar Prodigy Desiree Bassett

Desiree Bassett’s accomplishments place her in a select group of
modern guitarists. She’s performed with Sammy Hagar, the Marshall
Tucker Band, with members of the Allman Brothers Band and at the
2006 and 2007 NAMM shows with rock band Living Color. She was named
Talent America’s “Best Musician” in 2005, has recorded two albums as
a bandleader, played countless gigs on both coasts and is sponsored
by Peavey, Schecter Guitar Research and Taylor Guitars, among
others. While this may sound impressive enough as it is, what makes
these accomplishments even more remarkable is that she just recently
celebrated her seventeenth birthday…

At an open mic in Hartford, Connecticut, guitarist Desiree
Bassett caught the attention of bassist Doug Wimbish, who was in
town throwing his annual gathering of funk and rock legends, the
Wimbash. Wimbish was so impressed that he asked the then 12-year-old
to sit in at the event the following day. Two years later, at just
14, Basset has won several awards, played the second stage at
Ozzfest, and earned endorsements with Schecter and Peavey. Recently,
Bassett cut demo tracks with Wimbish producing, and with Vernon Reid
and Will Calhoun as support…

When she was two, New Haven-born Desiree Bassett’s hero was
country star Reba McEntire, whose songs she was already singing. At
three, Desiree began playing a mini-guitar, moving on to her dad’s
full-scale model at five.

wailing away. But if you see a pretty girl wielding an axe, chances
are you’ll give her a second look. Well, guys, here’s a rising
guitar chic, which has been making the rounds – and we mean that
literally. Having jammed with the likes of Sammy Hagar, Living
Colour, Kal David, Andy Aledort and Allman brothers, Desiree
Bassett, 15, is surely a hot chic who makes the guitar look sexier.

Desiree Bassett, 15, lives in Ashford and is a sophomore at E.O.
Smith High School. Her father (and manager), Dan Bassett, calls her
“the real deal, the real modern-day Hannah Montana, who goes to
school by day, practices and plays clubs and festivals at night.”

Every January, Daisy Rock is completely submerged with all sorts of
things that come with the NAMM show, from merchandising a booth –
